HOWTO: display DBCS (GB/Big5/JIS) filename on Windows Vista's explorer

Windows Vista's explorer has a strange way to display filename, so there is no easy way to display DBCS (GB/Big5/JIS/KSC coded) filename. The follow steps can partially solve the problem.

1. Right click on the desktop, and select 'Personalize' from the popup menu;
2. click 'Windows Color and Appearance';
3. click 'Open classic appearance peroperties for more options' if you see it;
4. make sure now you are in 'Appearance Settings' dialog box;
5. click 'Advanced ...' button, now you see 'Advance Appearance' dialog box;
6. under 'Item' combobox, select 'Icon'
7. under 'Font' combobox, select 'System' Font (all other fonts not working);
8. now press 'OK' , then 'Apply', NJStar will now able to display DBCS filename.

I know the System font looks ugly, but this the only solution so far. You may reset the Icon font backto default 'Segoe UI' font in order to undo the change.

If you can change the filename, renaming the DBCS filename to normal Unicode CJK filename is a permanent solution, but you can not change it if the file is on CD.
